26 of the required 32 birds have been harvested from the wild and raised at a specialist breeding station outside Underberg in KZN. Six of these birds are paired into dedicated breeding chambers.

This conservation breeding and release initiative is no quick-fix solution and while making every effort to keep overheads down, we seek help to keep the foundation group safe and healthy as they mature to breeding age. It is, after all, these very birds that will ensure the continuance of the species.

If any of their stories resonate with you, please consider becoming a Feathered Friend. Add your support to the initiative and sponsor a bird with a donation of R6000 a year, ensuring that this majestic mountain monarch remains the flagship of the Maloti Drakensberg skies.
