BEANIES 4 BEARDEDS

Longterm conservation involves communities and custodianship, and we all have a role to play in building these relationships. Ladies in South Africa have combined forces to knit beanies for the children of the mountain kingdom that share the Bearded vulture’s home. Literally knitting these two communities together, these winter warmers are distributed by programme field workers who monitor the BV breeding territories to the people they meet along the way. The beanies are both practical and colourful and also branded with a Bearded vulture tag. This gets everyone talking about the conservation programme, they value of the birds and represents a handshake into a new relationship.

People are unlikely to care about the birds unless they know we care about them. So, if you are skilled with a knitting needle or crochet hook, please consider joining this cross-border, cross-culture community of conservation knitters, Its heart-to-heart outreach for the people and the birds.
