“Boris the Brave”.
In 2019, a second male finally joined the captive group, from Lesotho. Early in the season climber Gavin Raubenheimer arrived on a nest platform and was surprised to find, no eggs for harvesting, but two chicks instead. Rapid radio comms ensued and ‘Plan B’ was initiated and Gavin retrieved the smaller of the two chicks. This chick proved to be the smallest chick to date (weighing in at just 95g) and immediately touch the hearts of all involved. Gavin, claiming naming rights, called him Boris. Sani Pass was tiny Boris’s first road-trip as he made the bumpy journey back into South Africa to join the Bred 4 the Wild breeding group. From this adventurous early arrival, to date, inquisitive and bouncy Boris has been full of surprises.
