Description
Red is the first programme bird to come from the highlands of the Free State province. She is indeed a beautiful, big, stately “boeremeisie” (farm girl) and is classically dark in her juvenile plumage. Red hatched from an egg that was particularly bright in colour, hence her name. Her parents had obviously bathed in oxide-rich mud (as they do) and transferred the red stain to the eggs as they incubated. Hatched in 2019 she has years of maturing to accomplish before she will be ready to breed, hopefully from 2026 onwards. No pressure girl!
