National Geographic

A 2020 National Geographic Explorer grant was awarded to the project as our venue fell under siege to illegal land-grabbing syndicates. This necessitated an evacuation of the vultures from the African Bird of Prey Sanctuary location to a new breeding station outside the mountain village of Underberg, KZN. Nat Geo’s support allowed us to construct the first double breeding enclosure and cover the costs of our Lesotho liaison officer for two breeding seasons.

Farmers Agri-Care (Pty) Ltd comprises a network of specialist agronomists, who provide integrated, on-farm crop protection and yield improvement services to commercial farmers in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. The company annually support the BVBP joining forces to protect our natural environment.

Knowing the European conservation efforts of the VCF, the South African based Van Pletzen Steynberg Trust has kindly joined our vision to replicate the success of the programme in Africa. They have partnered to harvest and raise the foundation group of breeding birds for three seasons.

The amazing efforts of Bluff Meat Supply and Mark Lederly keep our 26 founder birds fed with safe and weekly deliveries of cut mutton bones. This practical and essential support forms the backbone of our captive management.

Creatures and Critters

Every breeding season Richard and Sam Boynton of Creatures and Critters provide an everchanging, last minute supply of fresh rodents to ensure that we can raise the programme chicks according to their individual chicks. They walk alongside us every step of the way.
